Solution of a dumping problem using a reverse osmosis system
Stenco solved an out-of-limits dumping problem due to its high salinity. All the industrial waste produced by the plant came from the regeneration water of its decalcification systems and the purges of its boilers, causing excessive salinity in the discharge. After studying the problem, the decalcification systems were replaced by reverse osmosis systems and the salinity of the spill was properly reduced, achieving as additional advantages the decrease of boiler purges, with a consequent energy saving and CO2 emission to the atmosphere.
